Papa LEFT!
Yes, it's true. Jonas LEFT us to go on a leader's retreat for church. He was going to go for TWO nights, but I had a minor heart attack at that thought, so it became a 24 hour+ thing. Layla went to bed at 1:45 a.m. last night, got up to eat at 4:45, was back in bed by 5:15, Mama was bad to sleep by 6:00, and we both got up for the "morning" at 9:30. That's a 3 hour and 4 hour stretch of sleep for her, people! The bad news? I did something HORRIBLE. I swaddled her (I usually only do that during the day), put her mattress on my bed, and put her on her STOMACH. So wrong of me. However, she got great night sleep. Now what do I do? (-: Here is Layla taking her morning nap the same way. Normally it's only an hour or less. Let's see how long she goes! (And I'm going back to go watch her and make sure she doesn't smother....)
Update: Turns out her nap was only 30 minutes--half as long as normal--so many my theory is off. She's in her "long" afternoon nap now. We'll see about this one...

Sleep. (*DramaticFrustratedSigh*)
This is our GOAL all day, every day, (it seems)...but...
It just can't happen anymore. Layla can't sleep on us anymore, because MAN does that put a crimp in living in general. I love holding her while she sleeps, but it seems to be an all or nothing thing. I HATE this whole sleep thing with a passion! While I write this Layla is going on 20 minutes of screaming in her room, after only sleeping for 1.5 hours today and having horrible nights for the past 4 nights. Jonas can't keep going to bed sometime between 1:00 and 3:30 a.m. I can't keep getting up with her ever HOUR during the night. I can really say I hate the Cry it Out method, and I don't even agree with it (!!!!!!!!!!!), but here I am doing it for the sake of sanity. I'm only going to start with trying to get her to go to bed around 6:30 every night using this method. We'll see if she stays asleep longer doing it. If not, I don't know what I'll do. We're like ZOMBIES over here! If I hold her for her afternoon nap she would sleep anywhere from 3-5 hours! If I put her down--in anything--she is up in 20 minutes or less. Incredible. Sigh. The most frustrating thing for me is that EVERYONE knows what to do, and NO ONE agrees on what to do. Every expert says something different. I don't even think we should be doing this for another 2 months, but... URG!

Christmas with the Cousins
We had these pictures taken as a surprise for the Grandmas (as a Christmas Eve gift), but they were taken at 6 weeks for Layla...and now she's pretty much 18 weeks...but they were just too cute and had to be shared!
As you can see, this was BEFORE Layla learned to smile...she still has the dazed and confused look. (-:

Charlie's Birthday!
On Saturday we went to a great Asian restaurant near our church to celebrate Charlie Pepper's birthday. Layla did VERY well until right near the end. Maybe she was sad she couldn't have a cupcake like Charlie...and Mommy...(*sigh*)

Jackpot!
So, it turns out, Grammy deals with her Layla withdrawl by SHOPPING for her! Jackpot for us! (-: This is one of the cute new things that arrived today: It's waaaaaay too big for her right now (size 6-12 moz.), but it was too cute to NOT try on and see how it might look when she's a little..."fuller." Thanks, Grammy! (The onesies are great too!)
p.s. The lighting is so bad because it's a nasty, cloudy day here...and for the life of me I couldn't get Layla to understand the proper way to sit and behave while in a dress... (-:
