Finn:
Finn got a haircut yesterday. He looks sharp now, and he'll tell you very happily that he got a haircut, but the experience itself was less than pleasant. He HATES the clippers and screams the whole time they are being used. Fun fun!
He had a rough time going to bed tonight. Normally he goes down just fine, without a peep, but tonight he was up in his crib and calling out for someone just minutes after being put down. When I went in he was very sad and wanted to get out and go downstairs, and as this obviously was not an option I suggested I sing him a song instead. I had to leave the room a few times in the next few minutes, and he would just sob and sob--SO unlike him, poor boy. He finally fell asleep with me singing next to his crib, but the thing that melted my heart was walking into the room and having him say "Mama, I just miss you!!" Awwwwwwwww. I'll sit here and sing for hours, buddy. :)
Layla:
Layla has started doing this new thing that is drastically increasing my laundry load. Every time she passes gas she is convinced she needs new underwear AND pants, because they all smell poopy. Hard to argue with this logic, BUT...sometimes this means many outfit changes in a day! Hoping this phase passes soon. Sort of. But I laugh almost every time she does it too, so that's likely not helping things to move along quickly...
Layla loves to sing. LOVES it. She sings all the time around the house, and loudly too. I love to listen to it, especially since she doesn't really get the lyrics to most songs. Unless the song is a really slow, calm song, Layla will only have--at most--50% of the words correct. And, the words that she doesn't get don't even sound like words...just sounds and syllables mixed together. Yet, she still sings with VOLUME and gusto, every time! I got a video of it this afternoon...pretty good stuff. I'll post it soon.
Me:
I am on the slow recovery track from a pretty bad pinched nerve. THAT was fun. :( My right wrist and elbow started hurting two days ago, but I woke up that night at 1:15 a.m. in pretty bad pain all up and down my entire right arm. I took Tylenol (which is allowed when pregnant), had Jonas rub pain cream ALL up and down my arm, and then later put pain-relieving oils on it...but nothing helped. Not totally surprising, I guess, as nerve pain is rather...tough. I went to the Chiropractor the next morning (after calling my OB. They weren't too concerned with me from a "high risk pregnancy" standpoint, so they suggested I go ahead with the chiro and let them know if I was still in pain a day later) and I'm so thankful I did. I can't tell you how many times that man has saved my butt! He did some adjusting and stretching with me, and I could tell I was feeling better, but for sure not 100% last night. I slept VERY carefully last night on an orthopedic pillow, on my back, with pillows under my knees, and my arm laying flat at my side. I now feel even more improved this morning and will go back to the Chiro tomorrow morning for a last adjustment for this issue. The only thing that really hurts now is my wrist when I use it a lot, and I get an ache that goes up my arm to my elbow at least when I use the arm a lot, but I imagine that will go away with time. I'm also going to borrow a wrist brace from a friend just in case this is also pregnancy carpel tunnel related.
Jonas:
Jonas gets to drive home in LIGHT these days...so that's nice, especially for the guy who needs light more than almost anyone I know. :) On the downside, work is pretty boring for him these days, so I still pray regularly for a new job for him sometime soon that would be interesting for him, at the very least, and where people would appreciate him and the work he does.
His car died and would not start over a week ago, when the Polar Vortex was hanging heavy over MN, so we're still trying to figure that out. Dad is in Poland until the 21st, though, so fortunately we have time to get things worked out before he gets back--Jonas can use his car to get to work then. I'd give it a 50/50 chance that this car is just dead. It has over 200,000 miles on it and has served us very well...but, after 200,000 miles how much money do you REALLY want to put into a vehicle? None is the correct answer.
Family stuff:
Last Wednesday night we all went
here, to the Oxford Community Center "Great River Water Park," and boy did the kids have a blast! I think their name, frankly, is a little grand for what is actually present there, but it's just perfect for our kids at this age. Layla had been asking for weeks and weeks to go to a pool, so I was glad to finally make that dream come true...and on an absolutely frigid day, no less. On Monday and Wednesday afternoon/evenings the park is just $2 per person, so THAT is why we went that night as well. Cheap thrills!! Layla made friends with a girl several years older than her and still talks about her "friend at the pool."
On a similar note, we hope to take the kids up to Duluth again for a little family winter vacation sometime soon, like we did last year. We went
here, to the Edgewater Resort and Waterpark, and had a blast, so we hope to do that again--maybe in mid February? I'm not sure how long I'll FIT in my swimsuit, so we better do it soon!
