It likely won't be much longer that all the kids are at home, enjoying the homeschool life, and so we're going to try to take advantage of this next year and get as much easy, cheap travel in as we can, especially since Jonas works 100% remotely. Our trip this time was a mid-week 48-hour jaunt down to Iowa to see Pikes Peak state park and take in the lovely drive along the river. To be clear: the majority of Iowa is the most boring place you could EVER FIND YOURSELF. 😂 But we drove along the Mississippi river and really enjoyed ourselves!
We asked an old couple to take our family photo. Pretty sure these people had never seen any sort of technology before. EVER. She took a million one-second videos of us, so we basically have nothing usable.
Hiking to bridal veil falls. The hike was breezy and cool and so lovely...no bugs!

Kellan LOVED this hotel pool slide area. We were the only people there. Exactly the reason to travel in the middle of the week! Hurrah!
The second day we went to visit the Native American effigy mounds high on a bluff. It was a HIKE to get up there. And there were lots of mosquitos, so Jonas kept up a blistering pace for the hike, haha. But it was still so lovely. We probably saw about 40 of the 200 mounds in this area, and one of them was in the shape of a little bear.
We stopped at the Driftless Region visitor center. Very cool stuff there for kids who haven't been inside any museum in almost two years!
This Timber Rattlesnake creeped me out. They can be found in south eastern MN. Gag.
The drive was less than 4 hours, but that was several hours too long for Kellan who wanted out of the car IMMEDIATELY. So we stopped at this park.
Next up: Door County WI in early October! There are 11 lighthouses on that peninsula, so we plan to see a bunch of them.
