For Fall Break, Home Exchange decided that we would go to Galveston, Texas. Another great family trip, in the bank.
On the way there we stayed overnight in Tulsa. Good times. Nice city. -At least the part that we saw. We found this lovely park and spent about 1 1/2 hours here that night. It's about the journey people...
We got an extra night at a place on the Galveston beach. It was a small place, really small, but we were happy to get it for one night to be right by the beach.
Here's looking one direction (the only bedroom is off to the right. These are the other beds).
Here is looking in the other direction.
Our minivan is such a trooper. Love it. Here is my minivan brochure photo. I call it a minivan because that's what it is. I don't call it a truck, because it's not a truck. It's a minivan. (You know who you are.)
Karate Kid poses on the beach.
...and one ballerina.
Spent some time at Houston Space Center, and it wasn't a problem...
But, too be honest, it wasn't that amazing either. Too many lines, too many people, not really that much to see, despite what it looks like. We waited in the cold for about 1/2 hour to go into this shuttle/plane exhibit. It wasn't real, you couldn't touch anything... very tourist stuff.
BUT. It's family stuff, so that's okay.
I am continuously amazed by the places we get on Home Exchange. I mean, come on. I think it's because no one ever takes good photos of their place. So then I have to do it when I get there.
Kellan, chilling on the couch.
We went to the Museum of Science in Houston. It was really well done and the exhibits were fantastic. We all really liked it.
Kellan and his Megladon. His favorite.
After the Science Museum we went and had lunch in a park.
Back to the van.
You give one seagull half a cracker...
... and this is what you get.
Made sure to get some relax time in.
One of our neighbors helped us catch a fish. Actually... we met him fishing one day, and he was quiet but super nice. The next day, he shows up at our door and says he has a big fish on his line, and asks if we want to come reel it in. So we hopped in his truck and went over (about 2 min away). Then we spent the next 1/2 hour pulling in this fish. It doesn't look that big, or maybe it does, who knows, but it was quite the fighter. I guess a fish of this type -to get one this big is like 1/1000. He said it was probably the biggest one he's ever caught. And he risked it losing it to come get us to reel it in. Ridiculous. THEN, as if that wasn't enough, when we went to the beach for a while, he filleted the fish for us and gave it to us for dinner!
Just lovely.
We stopped at a carnival as well. Very NOT like us Schaefers, but we had a wonderful time. Perfect weather. Hardly anyone was there. No lines at all.
