Layla has some blocks she loves to stack/make a tower with, and on top of each block is an animal. I used to ask her what each animal said as we stacked them, but now SHE wants to ask me what each animal says. Here's a sample conversation (she adds an "a" before lots of words these days...):
Layla: Okay, Mama, wassa a-cow says?
Me: Mooooooooooooooo.
Layla: Das a-riiiight, Mama!
Layla: Um.....okay, Mama, wassa a-cow says?
Me: Moooooooooooo.
Layla: Das a-riiiight, Mama!
(Repeat 5 times. She likes the cow best)
We then go on to do the rest of the animals. She often confuses the name of the animals and their sounds, though, so sometimes it goes like this:
Layla: Wassa a-quack says?
Me: A duck says quack!
Layla: Das a-riiiiiight, Mama!
Cats are often "mew," Frogs are often "ribbit," etc. Fun times over here, folks! :)

Abandoned by the Rydbecks...
Tomorrow, the Rydbecks abandon us and move to Seattle.
Today was Zoey's birthday, so we went to "Cupcake" to celebrate...but the poor little girl was sick as a dog! Therefore, most of our videos are, again, of Layla.
Can I just say, how did I forget how awful it is to take a 2-year-old to a restaurant?? Amazing. I spent most of the time running after Layla to keep her out of the kitchen. Jonas spent most of the time bouncing Finn so he wouldn't fuss. We maybe had 4 total, complete sentences with other adults present. But we wouldn't have missed it for the WORLD! We will miss you SO much Rydbecks!!
Planning our Seattle trip now...

Layla and Anja singing "Jingle Bells"...
...ON Thanksgiving DAY! How do you teach a 2-year-old about the sacredness of each individual holiday?? We have a strict "No Christmas music before Thanksgiving" rule in the Berube house, and THIS Schaefer house... ;)
Okay, maybe I was helping a little...but SHE started it...

Black Friday
Like every other MN family with young children, the day after Thanksgiving we went to the MN Zoo to play in their "Tropics" area and Discovery Bay. :) Fun times. It is SO nice to have a safe place for Layla to be able to RUN in the Winter!! I'd love it even more if it were a bit closer...but I'm thankful, I'm thankful!!
Sick
My poor baby boy. He's been sick lately! Well, actually, I was too...and I maybe-sorta gave it to him.
I wasn't feeling brilliant on Monday, and then I threw up two times on Tuesday night. Wednesday I was feeling okay, and I was fairly certain that it had been food poisoning. Then, Thursday morning, Finn threw up SIX times before we went over to my parent's house for Thanksgiving. (Scooter, Ben, Laura and Mike were able to witness one of those times...lucky dogs...) He threw up again at 6:00 p.m. Then again at 2:30 and 3:30 a.m. Then again at 11:30 the next morning.
By this time I'm beginning to worry about him and dehydration. I called the nurse, talked about fun puke stuff and wet diapers, and she decided I really should come in before the weekend. The thing was, Finn was acting totally FINE...happy, smiling, sleeping like normal, etc. He just threw up often, and a LOT. So, in we went.
At his 6 month apt on October 25th he weighed 17 lbs, 4 oz. Friday he weighed 18 lbs, 1.5 oz. I guess to be officially "dehydrated" a baby needs to have lost 10% of their body weight (!!!!!!), so....ah....Finn was nowhere CLOSE. He hasn't thrown up since, thank goodness. And after 4 poopy diapers today he HAS to be feeling better... ;) Ah, betcha didn't expect all this "Mommy" talk in this post today, eh?? Good times. SO much fun. :)
He's down for the night now, and I'm about to put Miss Layla down as well. Here's hoping for a restful night for everyone! Last night Finn decided to wake up after 5 hours of straight sleep and stay up from 11:30-12:30. Jonas spent most of that with him in the livingroom. Good man.
...and, there he is making some noises. Gotta run! :)

New toys from Grammy!
While it may not look like it during this entire video, Layla DOES lover her new trike from Grammy. Her legs are just a tad short still, but she's working up to it! :) Thanks for such a COOL toy Grammy!

Finn's hair...
...is now long enough on top/in front to look super messy when he gets up from naps and night sleep. It's incredibly cute. :)
He didn't lose any hair (or at least he hasn't lost any YET...) like Layla did as a baby, so he's got a pretty long amount on top. It's just the back where his head rubs against the blankets/sheets that is a bit shorter. It's sort of a "hip and modern" style, I think: shot on back and on the sides, long on top/in the front. Now, on to styling products!
(I'll post a picture when I can take one).

Finn:
I know this picture may not show it, but...

...Finn has developed MAJOR personality in the last two weeks! He is a loud talker now. "bLA bLA bLA bLA!" and "aDA DA DA DA DA! aDA DA DA DA DA!" are standard around here...so crazy after his meek, mild, and quiet first 6.5 months. :) He also is VERY sure of his likes and dislikes now. He starts crying if he even THINKS I'm going to put him in his bouncy chair (which I probably am...often...), and is overjoyed at being rescued. Ah, the heights of joy and the depths of despair. Get used to it, little man. :)

Finn's first official solid food...
Yes, Finn is almost 7 months old...and we're just getting around to this. Hello, second born! That, and he's in a family with food allergies (I guess??), so we're trying to be extra careful. Sweet potatoes were the only "first foods" I had on hand tonight, as we were trying to kill some time, so that's what he got. I probably should have mashed them up better and made it a bit more runny at first, but...eh. He'll get over it. ;)

A blustery fall day...
We stayed in our PJs much longer than normal today and watched Winter attack Fall from our cozy living-room window. I love our view. Layla also played with her Fisher Price toys (kissing the babies in one picture below) while Finn's 30 minute traditional morning nap turned into 1 hour, 45 minutes. It's a cozy day here in MN!
