Christmas...
has come and gone, and we did it as best we could with just the Schaefers in our own house with Uncle Dan. I think this year we would have been here in Minnesota anyway, but it was hard not seeing anyone on either side of the family. We tried to call, facetime, text, and zoom when we could, but we all know it's not the same. Still, I think it went alright and I enjoyed some time with just our family... which is basically what we've been doing all year it feels like. -If you haven't noticed, the past few posts have been by me (Jonas).
Lisa started off the holiday with baking day, a time-honored tradition held by the women of the Berube household with a few extras in there as well. We all have our favorites and Kellan was no different. He didn't eat the whole cupcake of course, mostly the top part before moving to the next one.
This year was the Christmas of legos. They all got them. Even Kellan got presents that he can put together in different ways -mainly spaceships, which he's really into these days. Finn started off with a spaceship as well, from the Mandalorian. He of course loved it, especially since he and I have been watching the show together. Finn is: perfect for putting together legos. He's meticulous, extremely careful, reads all the directions, takes his time, and does it just right. He also takes plenty of breaks when needed. Here he is finally finished and couldn't be happier.
I didn't know it, but Lisa had been buying lego sets since sometime in October! She got them using points from credit cards, and I think because she's in charge of buying gifts from people in her family as well. I think we got something like eight different sets for the kids, mostly Harry Potter. The kids LOVE Harry Potter. They've read all the books with Mama, watched all the movies, listened to the audiobooks, dressed as the characters for Halloween... it's... kind of amazing. Needless to say, they were thrilled to get the legos as well.
Here's Cora working on her first lego set. Both Finn and Layla have been helping her, and I've been trying to show her how to build legos as well.
The Dining Room table was commandeered for the better part of the week for lego-building only.
Yes... Papa got into it as well. I mean, who doesn't like building legos? I decided to crack open all the old legos we had from MY childhood and see what I could build. Here's my finished castle. Good times.
Lisa did a wonderful job of spacing out presents so they had one to open around every meal. I really liked that idea and it made for a joyous few days rather than a one-time blitz. It was a great few days of presents and fun all around.
Kellan got really into the present opening as well. He wasn't very good at it, but he's still talking about opening presents.
Lisa did a great job of picking out the presents Kellan would really like. Almost all spaceships. I've been playing spaceships with him now and then as well: "Papa, want to build a HUUUUUGEEE one???!!!!" -then we put all them all together to build a big one. "Papa, want to make a little tiny one???!!!" -then we make a lot of little tiny spaceships. He's very particular about his spaceship building.
More presents...
Cora got a new dress that she bought with money she won in an online contest put on by the Horsmans. -That's another story and a really good one! So she needed to try her dress on, and so Layla needed to put HER dress on... and Kellan is not one to be left out.
At the end of the day, the kids are in bed, Papa gets to clean up a bit, and we're back at it the next day. -They all seem to run together these days. I am sorry we didn't get to see more of the family this year. I like it and I know Lisa and the kids REALLY like it... But I'm also happy when we're all home together and we have nothing to do but be lazy and enjoy each other's company.
