The last week of school I tried to do far more games, projects, and experiments. They would have stopped doing any real learning a few weeks before the end of school in public schools anyway, so I try to at LEAST make things a bit more fun than our normal routine as we ramp down for the year.
Our last day of school was May 28th. I'm a firm believer that zero school should happen for kids in June, July and August...
On the last day of school we took our last "field trip," in leu of an actual Field Day, to William O'Brien State Park along the St. Croix river. Such a perfect weather day.
We had a wonderful get-together at the Horsman/Berube house on Memorial Day. It was the first time ALL the extended family had been together for 15 months. Vaccines FTW! On Memorial Day Jonas had to leave early with the older 2 kids, though, because Layla and Finn started kayaking practice that evening, and then Finn had baseball directly after that.
This is Finn getting ready to head to kayaking. Anja had her makeup out at our Memorial Day party and was giving all sorts of fake injuries to kids who wanted them, haha. Finn and his BFF Tomas for SURE wanted them. Turns out, makeup works a lot better than the oil pastels we have been using for fake injuries!
We have a very loose routine in the summers. Basically, mornings are for more "at home" stuff, like read-aloud, music lessons, and a chore or two. And a few meals. Then afternoons become mostly outside, and mostly swimming related with friends.

It is the neighborhood hot spot. The kids love it, I love it, everyone loves it. Winning!
Here is Layla on a Facetime call with a longtime friend, Zoey. She lives in Florida currently but is in Brazil for the next 2 months. Good thing we are all used to online friendships now!
We went down to Northfield to see Eamon, Taryn, and Aunt Lauren because Grandma and Grandpa were babysitting the kids. Left Kellan at home with Jonas and everyone was happy with that decision.
