New food for Mr. Finn!

We now have a new food we can feed Finn:  SANDWICHES!  :)  It's so insane to me that my kids don't eat sandwiches for lunch, mostly because I grew up on them, and they are cheap.

So, now Finn likes sandwiches!  We eased him into having Jelly on this toast, which he loves, and then I busted out the almond butter and jelly sandwich on Monday.  He loved it!  FAN-TASTIC!

As you can see, we are also still potty training.  ;)  He is 100% successful with pee, 0% successful with poop.  Awesome.   *sigh*

"Finn, show me your sandwich!"

Layla took the next two photos.

"Sausage"

See the zucchini, summer squash (yellow), leeks and chives in this picture below?

Well, THIS girl (*two thumbs pointing at me*) just got Finn to eat a TON of "zucchini/summer squash" fritters.  How?  He decided they were sausage.  :)

Parenting WIN!  Especially today, on a "food revolt" day for the children.  Their lunch is still sitting on the table, ready to become dinner...  Now, yes, I know, technically I had nothing to do with this "win" other than making the fritters for myself and Jonas, but the fact that he ate them...and that they were all organic ingredients to boot...I'm claiming that as a win-win.

I guess hunger / tricks of the brain did wonderful things for Finn.  :)   Mental note to keep more "sausage" laying around for when he is really hungry next time...

Today: food and flowers

Today was another CSA Box pickup day, so our dinner was a CSA feast.  :)

First of all, a children detour:  Finn and I went to pick up the CSA box while Jonas and Layla went for a walk.  Finn and I had been home a total of about 3 minutes when Layla burst through the door and ran up to me with this bunch of flowers in her hand.  She was so.stinkin'.proud. that she had picked these flowers for me.  Melt my heart!  We put them in a vase (which she broke in about 5 minutes, so here they are in vase #2...continually being smelled and appreciated by ALL of us.  ALL the time.)  ;)

Smelling the flowers

Hey, 1 out of 2 not blurry is pretty good...

Her fake smile, but real pride.  :)

Some of my CSA bounty.

We had fresh potatoes with chives from the CSA, tossed in some garlic and olive oil, then baked.  Delish.

Here Layla is helping to peel some corn with a scissors.  She always prefers the method where her hands come into the least amount of contact with the food/item as possible.

Moving on to hands, throwing caution to the wind!

Sauteed onions and mushrooms.

Jonas and his amazing pork.

CSA chives, cucumbers, and a jalapeno made into a great salad/chip dip.  (Fine, the tomatoes, lemons, and limes were from Costco...but what can you do?) ;)

Layla's Faves:

If I had to choose just two food that Layla adores these days, they would clearly be toast and ketchup.

Yes, you heard me right:  toast and ketchup.  So, really, gluten and HFCS.  ;)  Good thing she doesn't have to know about the "Crazy no-gluten, no-carbs diet Nazis" until she's older...  And yes, I do have non-HFCS ketchup in the house too... ;)

She will seriously ask me for toast 5 times a day.  And she likes to eat ketchup with a spoon.

Pi Day:

Well, it's Pi Day, so I guess it's time  for Pioneer Woman's leftover turkey pot pie for dinner!
