Our quarantine summer has begun!

This is such a weird time...there are murders and riots happening alongside peace and normalcy.  The privilege I have to ignore all the chaos, if I want, is not lost on me.  I've been dealing with a lot of anger lately, about it all...but one of the things that has especially bothered me this week (in addition to murder) is how people seem to have totally forgotten that there is a pandemic  STILL happening!  There is basically no state that has yet reached the guidelines given by the federal government to reopen...and yet, we are.  Because.  😒  No, you can't safely hang out with friends yet (unless you are actually keeping 6 feet away, which everyone sucks at, haha).  No, your kids can't safely play with any other kids yet.  No, you can't be around family without endangering them yet.  Yes, wearing a mask is an act of peace and love towards everyone else in the world you are trying to protect from yourself.  Right around now everyone is starting to talk about mental health as an excuse to justify breaking social distancing rules they know are still crucial.  Yeah, mental health only counts if you are alive to enjoy that mental health.  And the guilt of infecting your loved ones would not do great things for mental health.  No, nothing dramatic has changed yet...there is no vaccine available, no clear cure, and if people would just STAY HOME things would be like 90% better!  Gah.  Anger, haha.  Sigh.

Friday was our last day of school, and the kids rejoiced!  We made a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for Finn to celebrate, vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting for Layla to celebrate, and cookies for Cora to celebrate (along with giving some to our new neighbors).  We will do exactly ZERO school for the next 3 months, other than daily reading, because I firmly believe in seasons and rhythms and the ebb and flow of the year and calendar.  The true rest of summer gives us the energy and delight to take on the school year with gusto, and the school year makes us savor the summer oh-so-much-more.

They were playing a LOUD and energetic game of Sorry!

She LOVES working with the decorating tips.

The classic tongue of concentration.

Layla wrote this!  Hahaha!

It was 85 degrees today, so Papa got in the pool too!

Layla made another barbie video in the driveway this past weekend:

She spent a good 6 hours doing this on Saturday.

Just a ring pop and a boy up a tree.

A weekend trip down to the lake:

My whole body itches just looking at this.

You knew this was coming, right?  From Friday morning.  :)

In celebration of the last day of school, Jonas made woodfire pizzas again.  Awesomeness.
Before the madness begins.

During.

Sunday morning we went to Maplewood Nature Center to walk in the woods.  And the kids saw a turtle, which almost made Kellan lose his MIND.  :)

Best big sister ever.

We love the pool:

Finn in a tower of floatation devices, and Cora wearing a swimsuit 3 sizes  too big for her.
