This past Saturday morning we headed up to Duluth to say goodbye to my Mom's mother, "Granny." She is an amazing woman who has lived a wonderful life, but her time here on earth is drawing to a close. I'm so glad we all got to go up to be with her, and tell her we love her in person, and remember all the special times we shared together. It was a very sad, emotional day for us all...good, but still very hard.

| Her name is Lorraine St. Peter, and she's a gem of a woman. |
We were only able to spend about 45 minutes with Granny in the hospital (maybe an hour?) because she gets very tired very easily these days, so after we left we decided to go see the lake shore in Duluth before heading home. The kids (read: Cora) would not have been happy to drive 2.5 hours up there, spend 45 minutes there, then drive 2.5 hours home right away. So we went out to eat at Perking with ALL the kids (something we normally try to avoid doing, both for the sake of money and stress trying to manage kids while other people try to enjoy their food around us. Layla and Finn were totally polite, respectful, and super well behaved...but Cora is in a fun "yelling" stage right now, so that was fun. For everyone around us too, I'm sure. Sigh) and then headed down to Canal Drive on the point. We walked down to the lighthouse, saw the bridge rise to let big boats through, walked along the shore, and threw rocks in lake Superior. Then we headed home.

| So this was kind of fun. There is a big public fountain right along the lake shore area, and someone had dumped a ton of Dawn dish soap into it, so the fountain became bubble central. It was a beautiful fall day in Duluth, so the area was PACKED, and the kids were all having loads of fun. :) It was mildly dangerous (slippery), but still fun. Finn even went ahead and made a "soap angel." Good thing we always travel with several changes of clothes for him. That kid and getting messy! Mercy. |
| Uncle Dan came with us and was a good sport about putting up with our kid-centric day. :) |
| Wanting to watch the big kids play IN the bubbles, but not wanting to get touched by them... |
Off to see more sights! (When we came back to the bubbles the police were there, cleaning out the fountain. Boooo.) |
| Uncle Dan waiting around for some mini-doughnuts. |
| The famous lift bridge. |
| It was such a BRIGHT, SUNNY, beautiful day up there. |
| Heading off along the boardwalk for a rock-throwing adventure... |
| Uncle Dan saving Cora from the mean rocks... |
