When everyone was up this morning we had a great breakfast together: I made cinnamon rolls (and this time did not worry when it looked like they did not rise, because they seem to do just fine in the oven), and Renee brought bacon and eggs. It's really how every new year should start out, I'm sure.
Once we had eaten we headed out to the slopes for my kids FIRST time of "real" sledding. They had never gone fast down a hill. We went over to Phalen Park, but it's still closed for the lights show. Did that stop us? No sir! We stared the new year by ignoring all of the posted signs (my heart rate increased just a bit at this flagrant lawbreaking...) and parking in one of the parking lots anyway. For good measure, Jonas parked across THREE handicapped parking spaces....in case we were caught and hadn't broken enough laws or rules already. ;)
It was FREEZING, but we had a great time anyway! Thanks to the Goerss family for lending us sleds, and sorry for breaking one! Lesson learned: do not send three people down a hill on a one-person sled. Got it.
This is a lame 7-second video, BUT you can see the kids were pulled up the sled on Grammy's fancy sled. It's much nicer than having to carry/drag them up one your own, that's for sure! :)
Yes, we didn't exactly choose a "sledding" hill. All of the trees and bumps made it more...exciting. ;)
Poor Finn almost had a heart attack on that last run, I think...
This last video I took from inside the car with Finn, while we were warming up a bit...
We then headed back to the house to make a fire, drink hot chocolate, and talk about the church website. BINGO. Jackpot. Perfect day.
Done!
