Returning from a vacation:

Guys, my kids are AWFUL at returning from any vacation or time away from home, short or long.  Awful.  They forget how to do our routines.  They forget how to play with their own toys.  They forget how to be nice to each other and play together.

It took FIVE SOLID HOURS this morning of crying, whining, and sadness from them before they remembered how to just *be* at our home.  And we were only gone for one night!  Gah.  Re-entry sometimes makes me re-think even going places!

My strategy this morning was part ignore, part divide-and-conquer, and part lock them in the back yard until they are nicer to be around.  Haha.  By noon, we were back on track.  But boy those 4 hours were murder on my nerves.  Now Cora is happy in a bath (I'm watching her!) and Finn and Layla are playing with helicopter seeds in the tree house/fort.  No one is out of their PJs yet...minor details.

Even if we leave for fun things, my kids just thrive on those normal patterns of life, and having them messed up seems to seriously mess with my kids.  We are boring creatures of habit and simplicity over here, folks!  ;)
